Gill Wins WBA – International Featherweight Title at Wembley Arena
Briton Jordan Gill won the World Boxing Association (WBA) International Featherweight belt after defeating Mexican César Juárez by unanimous decision during the event held at Wembley Arena in London, England, on Saturday.
The Huntingdon native won by scorecards of 98-92, 98-93, and 96-94 to obtain the regional belt for the second time in his career.
However, it was not an easy task as he had to fight Juárez who, like any Mexican warrior, came into the ring with an aggressive style and an impressive volume of punches.
Speed and movement in the ring were key for Gill, who was able to respond to the Mexican’s attack with those tools. Although he got into trouble at times, he proved to be the better boxer in the ring to get the well-deserved victory.
Gill had already been WBA international champion in 2019 and now he wins it for the second time. The 26-year-old Briton left his record at 26 wins, 1 loss, and 7 KOs, while Juarez now has record of 25 wins, 10 losses, and 19 KOs.
